What's the difference between a static and a dynamic QR code?
A static code has your data (contact, link, WiFi) baked directly into the image. It works forever, offline, with no server — but it can't be changed once printed. Perfect for business cards, vCards and posters. A dynamic code instead points to a short 123smith link that redirects to a destination you can edit anytime, and every scan is counted. Use static to "set it and forget it," dynamic for campaigns you might update or want to measure.
Do 123smith codes expire?
Static codes never expire — they don't touch our servers, so there's nothing to switch off. Dynamic codes work while you're subscribed, and if you cancel we won't strand your print run: they keep redirecting through a 30-day grace period, then pause to a gentle "reactivate" page — never an ad or a dead 404 like other tools. Resubscribe and they're live again instantly.

Is Signature a subscription? Do I need it if I subscribe?
Signature is a one-time $19 payment, not a subscription — only dynamic codes (Starter/Unlimited) are billed monthly, because they run on our servers. The two are separate: subscriptions give you dynamic codes + analytics; Signature gives you branding (logo, SVG, no watermark). Simple rule: Signature = how it looks; a subscription = whether you can edit & track it.
Can I combine Signature with a plan?
Yes — they stack. For example, Starter ($5/mo) gives you 3 dynamic codes plus unlimited static codes; add Signature ($19 once) and all of them become branded — logo, SVG, no watermark. Teams already bundles branding, so you don't need Signature on top of it. Reusing your one-time Signature never grants dynamic codes, so it can't replace a subscription.
What if I lose my Signature license key?
You won't need it if you sign in when you buy — Signature saves to your account and unlocks on every device automatically. Bought without an account? Your key is emailed to you at purchase; sign in and paste it once to claim it to your account and you'll never need it again. Still stuck? Get in touch.
Is it private? What do you track?
Static codes are generated entirely in your browser — the details you type are never uploaded. For dynamic codes we record aggregate, privacy-respecting scan data (approximate country + device type, never full IPs or identities), and we never sell it. No accounts or tracking for the free tools.
What is a vCard QR code?
A vCard QR code stores contact details — name, phone, email, company and more — so that scanning it lets a phone save you as a contact instantly, without anyone typing. It's the fastest way to share your details from a card, badge or screen.
